If you tell me to be utterly honest here, I must say that I truly hate Sunday evenings and Monday mornings for one reason: Work time is at the turn of the corner. Even though it is not a real concern, because you just set your mind ready for what comes next and that’s it, for some people ergophobia is a real condition that blocks interpersonal behavior and prevents social interaction. Some weird phobias and fears like fear of driving, fear of success or ergophobia really affect the interaction with a society that expects a behavior that matches general norms and rules.

The word ergophobia comes from the Greek ‘ergon’ that means work, and the word ‘phobos’ that means fear. A person that shows symptoms of ergophobia, is a person that is afraid of the working environment, afraid of failing at their duties, afraid of speaking in public, or simply afraid of socializing with their co-workers.

Whether you suffer from fear of driving, fear of success or ergophobia, it is required that you find assistance to overcome those phobias and fears that prevent you from living a normal life. Ergophobia is not a new phobia. This condition was discovered around 1905 by Dr. Spanton, who said that it is a real condition, and needs immediate attention, ruling out the theory that it was only a sign of laziness.

It is a really an exaggerated fear of working, where the person may be fully aware of their situation, but they know that their fear is simply irrational. Some of the symptoms that phobias and fears like fear of driving, fear of success or ergophobia produce are:

1 ) Irrational fear of working

2 ) Panic episodes

3 ) Feelings of terror, horror and an fear of unknown events

4 ) Raised heart beat, also called tachycardia

5 ) Breathing troubles that could lead to asthma

6 ) Trembling

7 ) Nervousness and anxiety

8 ) Extreme sweating

9 ) Complete avoidance of those social situations

10 ) Redness

11 ) Skin rash in face, neck, chest and other sensitive areas

If you wish to eradicate ergophobia, fear of success, fear of driving, or any other phobias and fears, from you or one of you acquaintances, then these are the measures you need to take into account.

1) Seek intensive professional help. Psychological advise is a great allied to cope with irrational states of mind.

2) A specialized doctor could be consulted in order to provide you with some medical solutions, a treatment.

3) Find alternative solutions like therapy that comprises body energy, concentration and medication.

We all have our phobias and fears at one level or another. For example, fear of success has that unbearable action of self-sabotaging, while fear of driving has a psychological background of death and destruction, and fear of work has that Monday morning, weekend, or after-holiday allergy.

Fear of success is not as uncommon as it seems. Many people feel too much pressure in their life to achieve success, therefore, making fear of success an every day thought in their life. Now, fear of long words is plain funny. People actually cringing at the sound of the word ‘physiographies’ makes me realize I’m not that crazy. For more information on fear of long words read the article in this site.

Fear of dentist has got to be one of the most suffered phobias among people. A British study suggested that 4 out of 10 British are afraid of visiting the dentist in one way or another, while an American study claims that it’s between 5 out of 10 in their group. That only tells us one thing: Among all phobias and fears, fear of dentist is by far the big winner.

We have mentioned before that fear of clowns and fear of success are very common social phobias and fears. While fear of clowns affect a big majority of children, fear of success rates better among adults. One of the things that fear of dentists and fear of clowns have in common is the way they originate.

These two phobias and fears are caused by a post-traumatic stress disorder. A previous dramatic or painful dentist experience might have been the trigger. Not only would a visit to the dentist cause such phobias and fears, but also the simple narration of a painful dentist event by an acquaintance can produce high levels of anxiety, meaning fear of dentists. Another element that can increase this fear, is the relationship with the dentist. It is not all about the mouth-instrument relationship, it is also a matter of how well the patient relates with their dentist. A calm, caring, understanding dentist will most likely lighten the experience.

Fear of dentists is generated by the invasive interventions like surgery and teeth extractions that the patient undergoes. As a consequence, the sufferer will only seek professional help when the problem has gotten out of control. To heal that issue, again a difficult invasion might be required, only causing an aggravated phobia.

What could be some possible solutions for this irrational fear of dentists?

As in many other phobias (fear of success, fear of clowns, fear of long words), treatment seems to be the most logical answer to handle fear of dentists. Behavior treatment could suggest solutions like: relaxation techniques, which include proper breathing techniques and muscle relaxation, psychological assistance, which deals with memory exercises, mind-based therapy, negative thoughts, imagery and systematic desensitization.

If what the patient fears is contact with needles, then the psychologist will work with relaxation exercises to then move to an approach with the object, explanation of the procedure, and finally a ‘do-action’, which means actual contact between the phobic and the object.

As we’ve been writing in other articles, fear of clowns, fear of success, fear of long words and ergophobia, along with fear of dentists are only a few of the many weird phobias and fears that people have to deal with.

Weird phobias and fears are omnipresent. The oddest thing about phobias is that there isn’t one that doesn’t exist, you can just invent it. Start dreading something, anything, find a Greek root and name it. There, you just got yourself a phobia! The list of phobias is an ever-ending document. From the most common like fear of driving, fear of success or fear of dentists, to the most unusual like fear of long words or fear of bottled water in blue wrapping.

In related articles, we mentioned the effects that some weird phobias and fears have. For example, fear of driving is a somehow justified fear of getting behind the wheel and drive around a few blocks. Fear of driving, as any other fear in our list of phobias, is caused by the same reasons.

Phobias are sometimes produced by a big combination of external menaces and internal weaknesses. Many objects or characters are more culturally and/or genetically predisposed to create horror among people. However, a common ground for weird phobias and fears exists; that is the exposition to a traumatic or painful past event involving the ‘undesired object’. Some other factors that affect but are still under study, comprise brain composition, heredity and genetic predisposition.

Pick a name out of the list of phobias that we have, and I’ll tell you a way to treat it. Since, most weird phobias and fears are produced by the same factors, the same treatment techniques apply.

Therapists implement the cognitive behavior therapy. This therapy confronts the patient with the object of fear. The person will gradually learn how to control their state of mind and the involuntary physical reactions to the point of acceptance instead of withdrawal. For example, the person that suffers from fear of driving can slowly get acquainted with the car, and drive around the neighborhood for only a few minutes with someone next to them, until they are capable of doing it by themselves and overcome weird phobias.

In order to control your weird phobias, you can resort to hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy can be a feasible solution, since it removes the psychological association of images that causes horror episodes. Moreover, medication is sometimes used in extreme cases of phobias and fears. They are used to control the chemical reaction of the body and confront anxiety and panicking.

To learn more about weird phobias and fears, like fear of driving, fear of success or fear of long words go to our link ‘list of phobias’. With this list of phobias, you can know what else is out there in the realm of the bizarre.

Does the name Pennywise tell you something? Maybe the chills, maybe some fear, maybe some hatred, or maybe nothing. Imagine that you are alone in your house, it’s getting dark, you can’t see really well. The door bell rings, you go downstairs very slowly, you open the door and… Pow! A big clown face greets you with an annoying/devilish laughter GUFFAW, GUFFAW, GUFFAW!!!Fear of clowns, together with fear of driving and fear of success, is one of the most known weird phobias and fears.

Fear of clowns, or its scientific name coulrophobia, is an extreme fear towards these hated creatures. It isn’t true what they say: clowns are not funny, cute or good-spirited creatures. Well, maybe they are, depending on who is or who is not afraid of clowns. There has always been ambivalence, since people have managed to label clowns into two types. The good, funny one with fear of driving and the evil, sinister one, that kidnaps people and puts them in the trunk of the car to eat them later. Fear of clowns could be toward both of them. However, weird phobias and fears tend to address the evil clown.

Fear of clowns is more common with children; say ages 2 to 7, nonetheless, it can also be found among teenagers and some adults. These weird phobias and fears are caused by two main reasons:

1) Children grow fear of clowns after experiencing a dramatic situation with a clown in person. It may have been at a neighbor’s party, or a cruel prank the child’s father made. This fear is usually carried to the child’s adult life. A similar situation happen with fear of driving, where a traumatic situation makes the brain to retain that episode.

2) After seeing a malefic portrayal of a clown in the movies, television or media in general.

A Social Phobia

There has been a tendency in popular culture to turn the clown persona upside down, providing it with traits of horror. Fear of clowns as part of the weird phobias and fears have been feeding of human terror since the 70′s. Weary Willie the clown created one of the first cases of multiple personality in the body of the Kelly’s dynasty, father and son. On decade later a whole lot of movies started to give a bigger stardom to these Machiavellian characters. Movies like ‘It’ and ‘Killer Klowns From Outer Space’ really created a culture of fear among youngsters. With other generations, evil clown costumes are very popular in Halloween celebrations, town festivals and parties all over.

All these weird phobias and fears, including fear of driving and fear of dentists are easy to treat. Medication and therapy are valuable options, but sometimes psychological assistance is not even necessary. These weird phobias make me think: There has to be something scary about a bunch of people coming out of a tiny car. That might even cause me a new fear of driving.

Hectic traffic, unbearable noise, trucks passing by at full speed, children playing in the street, traffic lights going green-going red, make a right make a left? Fear of driving is probably one of the most common phobias nowadays.

Fear of driving can start gradually as the driver gets involved in unpleasant episodes, or it can be a mental disorder that has been carried since early years. Moreover, this fear is sometimes an intermittent sensation that goes on and off.

What are the possible reasons that causes a person to avoid driving a car?

1) Fear of driving usually comes from a traumatic situation. It comes from a past experience that the driver suffered. It could have been a tragic car accident, a near-death experience, a damage done to another driver, pedestrian or property, a hijack, or a late night routine that ended up in a robbery.

2) Anxiety produce by a stressful situations can cause fear of driving for a shorter period of time. The driver under this circumstances doesn’t feel ready to take the steering wheel after they have emotionally overcome any anxious state that they have suffered.

Many researches argue that fear of driving is 100% treatable. There is no need to forget completely about moving around by your own, since it exists many techniques that can enhance recovery for the sufferer.

1) Relaxing your body and your mind is very important. By listening to some soothing music, you can really learn to maintain calm in stressful situations, to relax your ears and to enjoy the overall driving experience. You maybe surprised at the effect it creates in the brain.

2) Gradually set up a goal to overcome your fear of driving. Set up a realistic goal if, and start an intense driving schedule. Start by driving small distances at a very slow speed. Cruise around your neighborhood and stop as many times as necessary to prevent increasing fear to reach uncontrollable levels. You may get yourself accompanied by a friend or a family member. This eases the negative reaction towards driving and provides an extra aspect of safe.

3) As if you were new in this planet, learn how to breath, or even better learn new techniques to control your breathing. People with high levels of anxiety tend to alter the normal pace of regular breathing, causing the panic state to flourish even more. Try breathing from the stomach and not the chest. Place one hand in your navel and another on your chest to guarantee that your are using the proper breathing exercise. Like in many other critical situations in life, a relaxed breathing can provide you with amazing levels of consciousness and tranquility.

Every morning when I wake up I say: Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, or something like that. Maybe you should try to pronounce it several times… It is hard, but it is not like you are going to die if you cannot pronounce it correctly, right? Well, many people would simply cringe at the sight or sound of this word. Fear of long words like fear of success or fear of clowns is one of the many weird phobias that we are going to discuss in weird phobias.com.

Fear of long words, also called Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia or Sesquipedalophobia, as ironic as it sounds, is one of the weird phobias thats people suffer when they simple have a persistent and irrational fear for long words. Statistics don’t show how many people suffer from this phobia. However, it is in fact a phobia that along with fear of clowns, fear of dentists, fear of success, ergophobia or many more, affects a considerable amount of people in the whole world.

How can fear of long words affect your lifestyle?

Fear of long words like many other weird phobias provokes panic attacks, sweating, irregular breathing and irregular heart beat, and even nausea. Sometimes, depending on how the person reacts to their deficiency, fear of long words can actually have a negative effect on social interactions. Panic attacks are really an embarrassing situation for those who experience them. You may feel one or more of the following symptoms:

1 ) Trouble breathing caused by chest pressure

2 ) A racing and inconstant pulse

3 ) A pounding, accelerated heart

4 ) Dizziness and headaches

5 ) Trembling and shaking

6 ) Numbness in extremities

7 ) Hot flashes

8 ) Chills

9 ) Extreme fear

10 ) Extreme embarrassment

11 ) Lack of control of the situation and crazy-like behavior

Due to the fact that many weird phobias are product of the human brain, sometimes psychological treatment is required to overcome their effects. For starters, the anxious person needs to talk to a physician to determine the causes behind those weird phobias, since the motivations are several. They could be either a pattern learned in family’s conducts or a social attitude picked up in the environment.

It is more common for people to suffer from other phobias like coulrophobia, fear of clowns, or fear of success. Nonetheless, fear of long words should be taken into consideration as well. Like many other phobias (again, be it fear of clowns, fear of success or fear of dentist), fear of long words can be cured with psychological treatment.

Weird phobias and fears are an abnormal response to supposed danger. This danger is usually an exaggerated reaction to an imagined or irrational situation. Weird phobias like fear of success, fear of long words or fear of driving are only a few of the weird phobias in the list of phobias that we have prepared in this site.

People can develop these weird phobias up to a ridiculous level. Ridiculous for the ‘normal eye’, because these phobias and fears are real environmental circumstances for the person that believes in that reality and has to deal with those situations everyday. A common fear and anxiety that affects many men all over the world is that of not being able to perform sexually, to have impotence or erectile dysfunction problems, that can easily be treated with generic Viagra (Sildenafil Citrate) or generic Cialis (Tadalafil), when in turn buy viagra or Viagra Online are really easy at a pharmacy in the internet.

For many, fear of success is an irrational weird phobia. I mean, who wouldn’t enjoy being a total hit at work, in school or in the community. But indeed, there are people that suffer from fear of success and it alters immensely their lifestyle.

Phobias and fears affect people of all ages (you can find an exhaustive list of phobias in a related article). Fear of long words is a really weird phobia that not many are familiar with. Some children may have a hard pronouncing a word like ‘absoluteness’, but others are actually wetting their pants with only thinking about it. Fear of long words happens with adults as well. I roll myself on the floor laughing when I hear someone trying to say ‘otorhinolaryngologist’, but an unlucky minority would cringe at just reading this article.

One other weird phobia, is fear of driving. If you think carefully, fear of driving is a well grounded phobia. A absurd increase of car accidents and deaths on the road have even made me a fear of driving individual. I don’t want to be out there, when all this traffic mayhem is happening. However, fear of driving as weird phobias goes beyond of just avoiding being on the street.

The humongous list of phobias that you can have find anywhere shares the same characteristics, like the fear of dentist or doctor. Phobias and Fears are emotional reactions to an uncomfortable situation that causes physical and mental responses. Some of the symptoms that affect all of these weird phobias and fears like fear of success or fear of long words include:

1) Horror, terror, confusion, fear and uncontrollable feelings of panic.

2) Unawareness that phobias and fears go beyond.

3) Acceleration of heart beat, extreme sweating, trembling, breathing problems.

4) Extreme desire to back down and avoid the situation.

Fear of success, fear of long words, fear of clowns and many more weird phobias and fears affect greatly the individuals who suffer the condition. A list of weird phobias is provided in another article to better understand the range and variety of this irrational fear to certain people, activities, conditions or situations.
